An End to the “Remain in Mexico” Policy

On January 20, the “remain in Mexico” asylum policy was halted temporarily. However, the policy has now been officially ended. 

The “remain in Mexico” policy called for tens of thousands of asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for their United States court cases.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has stated, “I have determined that MPP does not adequately or sustainably enhance border management in such a way as to justify the program’s extensive operational burdens and other shortfalls.”
